The Thaipusam celebrations is always a massive event in Penang with throngs of devotees that comes for their prayers as well as many other people to witness this unique day.
As usual, roads will be closed and traffic will be diverted to make way for the Thaipusam celebrations as well as the Silver Chariot and Golden Chariot procession. The road closures will begin from 24 until 26 January 2024. The organisers have officially published the routes of the procession and road closures, so all of us can plan our journey ahead.
On 24 January, the procession will begin on Lebuh Queen, starting at 6:30am. The Golden Chariot will travel from Arulmigu Sri Maha Mariamman Temple to the Penang Waterfall Temple at Jalan Kebun Bungah.

On 26 January, the Golden Chariot will travel back to Lebuh Queen at around 6:00pm.

Free Ferry Rides and Shuttle Bus Services
Free ferry rides will be provided for commuters starting from 12.01am on January 24 to 2.00am on January 26 during the Thaipusam celebrations.
Upon reaching the ferry terminal on Penang island, the public can also enjoy free shuttle bus services from Rapid Penang to go to the temples in Jalan Kebun Bunga.
The feeder buses will run from 2.00pm on January 24 to 1.00am on January 25, and from 5.30am on January 25 to 1.00am on January 26.
