The Performing Arts Centre of Penang (PenangPAC) is organising live-streaming workshops to raise funds to keep the centre afloat.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit our nation, PenangPAC’s theatre halls, studios, galleries and office space have not been operating since the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced on March 18.
All of their shows and events have either been postponed or canceled as well.
In the midst of the challenge, co-founders of PenangPAC has written a letter to ask for support from the public towards the centre and also for the sake of the arts scene in Malaysia.

Dear friends, In the thirty-one years of our wondrous existence, this is the first time we have had to close our doors. As necessary as it is, it still breaks our heads. As you are aware, KLPAC, TAS & PenangPAC have been out of operation for the past 4 weeks - and will be for, at least, the next two weeks. This is having a devastating effect on our finances. With our doors closed, we have not shows. - no shows = no audiences, and no audiences = no funds. What concerns us most is our inability to pay staff salaries and creditors. The MCO has set us back close to RM700,000 because of show cancellations. We have 50 permanent staff and hundreds of freelancers who depend on us for their livelihood. Faridah and I are doing the best we can, but it is impossible for us to do it on our own. We need your help. If you are in a position to lend a helping hand, please give. Thank you for supporting Malaysian theatre. Stay safe.
PenangPAC with the support of many individuals had volunteered to organise various activities using the Zoom live-streaming platform as fund-raising efforts in aid of the performing arts centre.
Each activity will run for a duration of one-hour for a minimum donation of only RM10.
PenangPAC also launched a donation campaign by appealing to supporters and the public to ‘spare a ringgit’ and donate only RM1 each to the centre.

For those who have love for performing arts or for the sake of our community’s survival, please give a hand to PenangPAC.
