The Penang ferry is a ride that connects the city of George Town on Penang Island and Butterworth on the mainland. This cross-strait transit has been operational since 1894, making it the oldest ferry service in Malaysia. The ferries carries both passengers and automobiles across the Penang Strait daily.
The ferry has been a tourist attraction and a ride that many families will bring their children over the weekends or school holidays. Unfortunately, the iconic ferry has been stopped on December 31, 2020 and replaced with a faster passenger boats.
While we are moving towards a new transportation to cross the straits, the old ferry has remained a sweet childhood memory to many of us.
