Don’t be surprised if you find something different when you order rojak in Penang which is totally different from other states in Malaysia.
Only in the northern region of Malaysia, the rojak is actually a type of fruit salad. It is not the savoury dish of deep-fried prawn fritters and bean curd served with an orangey spicy sauce that is called pasembur here.

Due to the major ingredients are just fruits, the key to a delicious rojak is the sauce. The rojak sauce is made mainly from shrimp paste added with sambal, dark soy sauce, palm sugar, some tamarind or lime juice. Different stalls will add various ingredients to make theirs special from the others.
